HSBC Malta CEO Geoffrey Fichte has remarked that HSBC Malta Foundation reaching 25 years since its establishment is a “proud moment” for the team involved.
His comments came as last week, HSBC Malta Foundation commemorated its 25th anniversary by inaugurating the second phase of renovations at the newly revitalised Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park.
To mark this milestone, the foundation announced that the number of trees and shrubs planted at the site since 2006 has reached 20,000. This comes after the latest phase in the development of the site, which saw an additional 5,000 trees being planted.
“Reaching this milestone is a proud moment for all of us at HSBC Malta Foundation,” Mr Fichte said.
He added that the foundation’s commitment to the environment does not only focus on planting trees, but it is also “about nurturing a sustainable future for Malta.”
“Each tree planted at Xrobb l-Għaġin symbolises our ongoing dedication to fighting climate change and protecting our unique biodiversity,” Mr Fichte continued.
A commemorate plaque was unveiled during the visit to celebrate this achievement and to acknowledge HSBC Malta Foundation’s efforts in preserving the environment.
Vincent Attard, Executive President of Nature Trust FEE Malta said that HSBC Malta is one of the corporate partners supporting environmental commitment, through a number of sustainable development projects and support towards biodiversity research and conservation.
“HSBC has walked the journey of the Xrobb l-Għaġin project from the start of its journey in 2004. It has contributed with a marvellous investment of 20,000 trees and shrubs as part of our natural heritage and for this we as Nature Trust Malta and the society should be grateful for such an honourable commitment by the bank,” Mr Attard continued.
Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park, renowned for its rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes, has benefitted from trees and shrubs planted over the years, which have not only enhanced its natural beauty, but also played a crucial role in supporting local wildlife, improving air quality, and providing a serene environment for visitors.
