Forming part of a major leadership transition within the company, following founder and CEO Jeff Bezos announcement earlier this year that he would be replaced as chief executive by Andy Jassy, who is the current head of Amazon Web Services.

Mr Selipsky has served as CEO of cloud data company Tableau for almost five years. Prior to that, he held a number of senior positions within Amazon Web Services, including serving as one of the business’s first vice presidents.

“Adam brings strong judgment, customer obsession, team building, demand generation, and CEO experience to an already very strong AWS leadership team,” Mr Jassy said in a letter to AWS employees. “And, having been in such a senior role at AWS for 11 years, he knows our culture and business well.”
