Pierre Fenech

Pierre Fenech, CEO at The Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC) and Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) holds a wealth of professional and academic experience in hospitality and business administration.

Mr Fenech’s early managerial career includes a series of senior roles at a plethora of local hotels and catering establishments, including Bugibba Holiday Complex, The Coastline Hotel, and Island Caterers.

In 2008, Mr Fenech was appointed to his first-ever directorial role when he was made Director of Operations and Quality Assurance at Island Caterers. He held said position up until November 2012, after which point he joined MKIC Ltd (the company that runs Montekristo Estates on behalf of Island Hotels Group) as General Manager.

Mr Fenech’s professional career has also seen him delivering lectures on various subjects related to the tourism and hospitality sector.

His academic portfolio includes an Executive MBA from the University of Malta, an undergraduate degree in Tourism Management from the same university, and a Diploma in Hotel Management from ITS.

Said experiences were pivotal to his current CEO positions at the MCC and ITS.

Housed in a 16th century building formerly known as the ‘Sacra Infermeria’, the MCC is nowadays one of the most impressive conference centres in Europe. Not only is the centre a cultural, architectural, and historic landmark in its own regard, but it is also home to ten venues and syndicate rooms, spanning over an area of 8,000 square metres.

Recently, the MCC invested €10 million in the opening of Malta’s first-ever virtual museum. Using mobile augmented reality and holographic technology, this initiative allows visitors to relive the building’s past.

ITS, on the other hand, is Malta’s main educational institution for the tourism and hospitality industry. This institute offers students a range of programmes starting from Foundation level, to Master’s Degree Level.

All of the courses offered at ITS are in academic affiliation with the triple accredited Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management.
