Jesper Svensson / Betsson Group

Betsson Group CEO Jesper Svensson has been named Executive of the Year at the Global Gaming Awards 2023, the iGaming firm announced on Monday.

The Global Gaming Awards are described as the “most reputable and prestigious” awards in the gaming industry, particularly due to their strict nomination and voting processes. Each company and individual is nominated for a specific reason that is released in the public domain.

In this year’s ceremony, which was held in London on Monday, Mr Svensson was one of 25 executives competing for the award, making winning “no easy feat”. Once the shortlist for the awards is finalised, a panel of 50 C-level industry executives chooses the winners with KPMG in the Crown Dependencies independently adjudicating the entire voting process to obtain a fair result. This particular category is sponsored by Germany-based online slots developer Gamomat.

Mr Svensson has been part of Betsson Group for almost ten years, initially starting out as Managing Director of Betsson.com, before he was then appointed Chief Commercial Officer of its Malta operations. He then served as Acting CEO, and after four months named CEO, a role he has been entrusted with since 2017.

Betsson Group stated that he has delivered “fantastic results; financially, mentally and reputation-wise”, while also being a CEO that “carries the company culture with him and inspires others”.

“He sees and pursues new business opportunities and without him, Betsson would not be able to boast such a great product portfolio and max geographical spread. Under his leadership, Betsson’s stock surged 52 per cent in the past 12 months,” the company added.

Betsson Group, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, has grown over the years to become one of the leading names within the industry. While its headquarters are based in Stockholm, Sweden, its operational headquarters are located in Ta’ Xbiex, Malta.
