Malta Freeport Terminals CEO Alex Montebello on Wednesday welcomed the arrival of CMA CGM’s Greenland containership, which holds 15,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).

The containership, powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), was built in 2022 and sails under the French flag. It is 366 metres long and 51 metres wide.

Mr Montebello noted that its arrival was a particularly notable achievement because CMA CGM recently unveiled the Paris 2024 Olympics logo on its 15,000 containers.

In February 2023, CMA CGM Group was announced as the official logistics partner for the Paris 2024 Games, with this partnership including freight services, international transport of goods, customs clearance, storage, delivery, site logistics, special freight, and IT systems integration.

Earlier this week, CMA CGM Greenland played host to the arrival of the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch on French soil, with the iconic symbol arriving in Marseille. The Olympic Games will be held from 26th July until 11th August, followed by the Paralympics from 28th August until 8th September.

“Malta Freeport congratulates CMA CGM for being the official logistics partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and joins in the spirit of unity that the Olympics bring,” Mr Montebello said.

Over the years, Malta Freeport Terminals has established itself as a strategic transhipment port, located at the crossroads of many notable maritime routes. It was privatised in 2004, and has since seen heavy investment to upgrade its facilities and equipment.
