digital health

PTL ltd has announced a collaboration with the University of Malta and Better, a market-leading Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform to train Maltese students on digital health via a new Master’s programme starting this October.

Pierre Attard, Managing Director at PTL, commented on the advantages that such a collaboration offers, saying “Both the University of Malta and the industry have much to gain from these collaborations, since they promote the discovery of new synergies and models that bring value to all stakeholders.”

“Building complementary skills is a reliable formula for successful collaborations, and providing access to industry leading platforms, like the Better Platform, would provide students with real-world work environments to engage with.”

The MSc in Digital Health is a joined venture between the Faculty of ICT and the Faculty of Health Sciences, which will bring students from ICT and healthcare backgrounds together to promote collaboration between fields, while ensuring that digital health remains relevant to the health needs of the public.

The field has become a strategic priority around the world following the outbreak of COVID-19, including in Malta, and the global Better platform – which PTL is a partner of – will provide students with a number of educational instruments, including developer support and access to technical documentation and tutorials.

Welcoming the agreement, Prof Alfred J. Vella, University Rector, said that whilst the healthcare sector has always retained its significance, “given the importance everyone attaches to health and wellbeing, the current pandemic heightens the need for advances in digital health which serve to promote better and more effective management of resources in this sector.”
