Andrew Mangion, Executive Chairman and CEO at EC English Language Centres, called upon Malta’s authorities to remove the country’s remaining travel-related COVID-19 restrictions.

Said restrictions include mandatory mask-wearing, testing, and the requirement to present proof of vaccination or complete a Passenger Locator Form.

“Let’s hope that Malta, that ‘sort of lives off tourism’, removes all its remaining barriers to welcoming foreign visitors now, without further delays,” Mr Mangion wrote on social media.

“The language travel industry, tourism, and all related industries have gone through hell and it’s time to move from pandemic to endemic,” he continued.

Mr Mangion is far from the only local business leader to call for the removal of said restrictions.

Both Malta International Airport CEO Alan Borg as well as Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) President Tony Zahra made similar requests in recent weeks.

“One of the most inspiring modern day leaders recently asked the western world to close the skies and allow his own people to win the war on the ground,” Mr Mangion added.

“We ask the powers that be in Malta to fully open our borders and allow us to save our own companies after two years of this unrelenting crisis. It needs to happen now,” he concluded.

Earlier this week, in his first public address since being re-elected Prime Minister of Malta, Robert Abela pledged to remove all remaining COVID-19 restrictions. An exact date for this is yet to be provided.
