Adam’s Founder and Managing Director Adam Demanuele on Wednesday pointed out that business leaders, especially those in the hospitality industry, need to give greater value to their employees through investment in organisational culture.

This came as he is in his first year studying for a Master of Business Administration degree from Henley Business School, where following a module focused on managing people, he “started to question why employees are moving out of the hospitality industry”.

“As restaurateurs, we have been criticised many times that salaries are low, there’s no work-life balance, and there’s constant pressure to deliver and perform. I agree and disagree,” he said.

After his extensive studying over the last two weeks, Mr Demanuele came to the conclusion that a major problem that the hospitality industry faces is that of organisational culture.

“Gone are the days to treat employees as employees, constantly preaching about all the negative things, and so on. Employees are our driving force. I would be nowhere today without the support of my great team,” he explained.

“There is no hierarchy, I am the boss, and the chapter is closed. Leadership is a better word for it. Empower your staff and let them integrate and voice their concerns within the organisation. We are on the same boat riding through the waves for one common goal: to deliver the best experience at work and through our lives hand-in-hand,” he continued.

Concluding, he remarked that investment in organisational culture will not only help business leaders “raise” their standards and “gain a competitive advantage”, but will also enable them and their employees to “live a much more serene life”.

Mr Demanuele is an entrepreneur and Chef that has years of experience in the culinary industry through experiences in Malta, Florence (Italy) and London (United Kingdom). He worked as Chef Patron at Maltese restaurant La Dolce Vita, but in 2013 he opted to venture on his own and founded Adam’s Fish Shop, a gourmet fish shop. This was then followed by the opening of seafood restaurant The Seafood Market Grill by Adam in Gżira in 2017, which has also recently launched a takeaway concept under the name Seafood Street-food by Adam.
