Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, awareness of the importance of communication in life and business has skyrocketed.

As teams adopted remote working set-ups, it became more important than ever for business leaders to maintain a constant line of communication with their employees, partners and customers. Yet, what many came to realise over the course of the pandemic was that it’s not just about keeping in touch, but also ensuring that your message – and effectively what it is that you are communicating – is clear and understood.

Sharing insight by British-American author and inspirational speaker Simon Sinek, Epic’s Chief Information Officer Antoine Galea has some choice words on the subject.

“Ensuring your message is understood is critical for effective communication,” writes Mr Galea in a recent social media post, drawing on a similar sentiment by Sinek.

And while this may sound “simple and obvious”, he quips, “it is a skill not everyone develops.”

So, the next time you’re communicating an important message, ask yourself first and foremost – ‘am I making myself clear?’
