‘It’s the journey and not the destination,’ many say. As cliché as that sounds, it is the case for the father-daughter duo Nick and Emma Xuereb ahead of their La Valette Half Marathon on 24th March.
Toly Products’ CFO Nick Xuereb and his daughter Emma have been gearing up for a marathon happening this Sunday, in aid of The Millenium Chapel Foundation.
Sharing their inspiring journey on LinkedIn, Toly explained that it all began during the summer of 2023, when “a simple fitness routine evolved into a strong father-daughter bond.”
After Emma suggested training for the half marathon in February, they embarked on a training regimen of rain, wind, and sunshine, making a total of four runs a week.
“For Mr Xuereb, it was an opportunity to spend quality time and achieve something meaningful with Emma. They successfully completed the half marathon, and together decided to run the challenging La Vallette Half Marathon in March, raising funds for The Millenium Chapel Foundation,” Toly explained further.
The foundation is run by lay people and Augustinian Fathers who have been in St Julians since 1932. Through the Millenium Chapel, it offers a safe space in Paceville, counselling and serves as a meeting place for residents and first aid to drug and alcohol abusers. Additionally, by 2022, the Chapel was giving out 120 to 140 packs of food each month to families in need.
Running to raise funds for the foundation not only fuelled the duo to train but also adds motivation, “turning their runs into a journey for The Millenium Chapel Foundation.”
Commenting on the challenge ahead, Emma highlighted the importance of discipline, hard work, and the feeling of crossing the finish line together.
