Joseph Cuschieri has taken on the role of CEO to replace Steve Ellul, following the latter’s imminent candidacy for European Parliament elections coming up in June.

Project Green is a Government agency tasked with implementing a €700 million investment, spread over seven years, in green open spaces around the country. Mr Ellul was appointed CEO of the agency in January 2023.

In a statement released by Project Green, Mr Cuschieri said that the Government Agency has “challenging and exciting times” ahead.

“I am keen to keep building on the good network carried out by my predecessor Steve Ellul. Together with the team at Project Green, I will endeavour to develop and implement innovative and quality green projects which add value and a better environment to the communities in Malta and Gozo,” he commented.

Up until 2020, Mr Cuschieri was the Malta Financial Services Authority’s (MFSA) CEO. Later that year he suspended himself over the news of a Las Vegas trip in 2018, all paid for by Yorgen Fenech, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

At the time of the trip, Mr Cuschieri had left his position as CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority to take on the role as head of the MFSA, which oversees all financial services on the island.
