Gilbert Camilleri has been appointed Chief Marketing Officer at blockchain company Chiliz and its app, he announced on Monday.

He took to social media to make the announcement, jokingly linking the difference between a job title and an actual role through the “Barbenheimer” effect, an Internet phenomenon that highlights the contrasts between Greta Gerwig’s fantasy comedy ‘Barbie’ and Christopher Nolan’s epic biographical drama ‘Oppenheimer’.

Despite this, Mr Camilleri remarked that he is “honoured, humbled, and incredibly motivated” to start working in his new role, before congratulating a number of others in Chiliz and’s marketing department that have recently received promotions, noting that he is “thrilled” to witness their career growth.

Prior to his new role, Mr Camilleri was Marketing Director at the company for three and a half years, where he was tasked with leading its partnership activation, social media, customer relationship management, design, video and web strategies. Before that, he was Head of Marketing for a year.

Aside from that, his experience also includes more than two years as CEO and Director at tech startup Ellp and over seven years at Uniblue Systems Ltd, a company he also led as CEO. Mr Camilleri also worked at Key Training Services and Central Bank of Malta.

He holds a Master of Science in Management from University of Leicester and a Bachelor of Science in Computing and Information Systems from London Metropolitan University.

Chiliz is leading blockchain fintech provider for sports and entertainment that developed, a sports fan engagement platform which is built on Chiliz’s blockchain infrastructure. While it has offices in Switzerland and Spain, Chiliz’s headquarters are located in Gżira, Malta.
