Energy Minister Miriam Dalli has announced the installation of two solar farms in Ta’ Ċenċ, Gozo. Comprising of 2,871 panels spread out over an area of 9,360m², the solar farms are built on Water Services Corporation reservoirs, and are expected to generate two million kWh per year, which will go on to power 500 households.

Forming part of Government’s “vision to continue to incentivise renewable energy in our country,” Minister Dalli affirmed, “we must continue to incentivise clean energy production. This is a sector where we are seeing a partnership between the private sector and even the government so that our vision of having a clean economy can be achieved together.”

Ivan Falzon / WSC

The company behind the sustainable investment is Malta Energy Ltd, a joint venture between the Water Services Corporation (WSC) and the Malta Chamber of SMEs.

Speaking of how WSC is making better use of its resources, CEO Ivan Falzon maintained, “with this, we will continue working on projects of added value, where this will result in generating more clean and renewable energy.”

Meanwhile, on behalf of Malta Energy, CEO Noel Gauci announced his intention to invite families who do not have space to install panels to buy a portion of future projects, noting “this will not only benefit businesses and their employees but also around 500 Maltese and Gozitan families for every new project we carry out.”
