In the case of said department, the certificate covers the provision of digitisation services for tangible cultural heritage assets entrusted to Heritage Malta, including any intangible aspects. Such digitisation ensures the widest possible use by current and future generations.

Mr Cassar noted that ISO9001 certification is the culmination of a year-long preparation process during which the unit’s internal procedures were re-designed to be in full conformity with the strict quality criteria established by the certification body.

“The acquired certificate is recognised internationally, making it all the more important for Heritage Malta as the official aggregator of national cultural heritage data,” he added.

The ISO9001 certification acknowledges quality management systems according to a set of established criteria and principles, including a strong customer focus, the motivation of top management, the process approach, and continuous improvement.

Said elements help to ensure that customers get consistent, good-quality products and services, which in turn, bring about several business benefits.

“The award of this certificate is an important step forward for our agency as it attests to the high standards achieved by the digitisation team while serving as a beacon for other units to follow,” Heritage Malta CEO Noel Zammit said.

He went on to note how the agency is ‘constantly striving to improve the general standards of its services and efficiency in preserving and communicating the cultural heritage entrusted to it.’
