Kyte Global Director Trevor Axiak has said that the end of the year is the only time that he gets some freedom to rest and avoid looking constantly at his email.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the business world has been flooded with calls for a greater focus on a work-life balance. As a result, business leaders have had to be more lenient when it comes work arrangements, employee benefits and other policies aimed at improving employee welfare.

However, amidst all this, many have ended up abandoning their own well-being. From taking calls and checking emails outside of working hours, to having to attend meetings during the holidays, some business leaders simply fail to properly unplug from working life and get some much-needed rest.

This is something that Mr Axiak is seeking to change from this holiday season onwards, with him stating in the latest instalment of this year’s MaltaCEOs.mt end-of-year series that he wants to start going home earlier from work than he used to.

As Co-Founder and Director of a leading information security and compliance service provider, finding some leeway to get any rest can be particularly difficult. Yet, as he reflected on the past year, Mr Axiak is intent on making some changes to his daily routine in 2024.

What 3 words would you use to sum up your 2023? Why?

Busy: We’re always going at 100 per cent, but we’re not complaining.

Challenging: We faced some resourcing issues this year which made it challenging.

Optimistic: We made some interesting changes this year and are looking forward to seeing results in the coming year.

What personal accomplishment from the past year are you most proud of?

We strengthened the team and we worked on new service lines which will be making a difference in 2024.

What are you most grateful for this year?

For the hardworking team that I have, who don’t just love their work, but love the company.

How are you going to spend the New Year?

It’s the only time I can take a break and not look at my email. Everything else is a bonus, but I’m sure there will be food and wine.

What are the biggest opportunities and challenges you believe 2024 will bring?

We have worked hard this year, sacrificing revenue at times, to put in the necessary processes and to invest in our people, so that we can launch our strategy in 2024. We are looking forward to seeing the results of our work.

Is there a particular skill you’d like to develop in the new year?

Delegating.

Is there something you’d like to change about your daily routine?

Going home earlier from work.

Where do you see yourself in a year’s time?

At my computer, writing my replies to this interview again and feeling proud of achieving the results we set out to achieve for the year.
