Sometimes working mothers are accused of being less committed to their job once they have kids, however, according to Parentaly’s Director of Brand and Marketing Jenna Vassallo, this is far from the truth.

“I quit a comfortable, well-paying job to join a startup when my baby was only nine months old,” she stated, explaining that she found the challenge of moving into something completely new and challenging “before [her] daughter’s first birthday” quite exciting.

Indeed “rather than staying in a role that was easy for [her] on a team with familiar faces, [she] willingly pivoted to a more challenging environment,” breaking the myth that women tend to lose interest in their careers the moment they become mothers.

“After having kids, my bar got higher and I couldn’t settle for work I wasn’t passionate about,” she added while stating that she couldn’t bring herself to do work that didn’t “feel meaningful.”

Speaking of her personal experience she says that although “new parents – more specifically mothers – are often falsely accused of being less committed to work after having kids,” for her it has just been the total opposite.

Ms Vassallo joined Parently as Director of Brand and Marketing seven months ago. Founded in 2019, Parently partners with HR departments within different organisations to help them construct parental leave policies and programs.
