Smart Studios CEO Johan Zammit on Sunday shared that while ChatGPT is an “amazing product”, it still has a number of limitations to keep an eye out for.

ChatGPT is a language model chatbot developed by US-based AI company OpenAI that is able to answer complex questions in a conversational manner through its supervised and reinforcement learning techniques. However, its launch last November has been marked by reports of uncertainty about what it means to future workplaces.

Mr Zammit, who holds a Master of Business Administration in E-Business and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, both from University of Malta, explained that ChatGPT definitely has various “shortcomings”.

He noted that it is “not the biggest language model in the world” and “not always right”. Mr Zammit also remarked that access to it is limited as it will not be offered for free and is not open source.

Additionally, the product is not Artificial General Intelligence and is not sentient. He added that ChatGPT is not connected to the internet and is not a search engine.

“It is not going to take away your job,” he said, before adding that it “is not going to replace education”.

Mr Zammit pointed out that while it cannot do an “endless” list of other things, yet it is still an “amazing product”. While it does not provide any of the above, it is the predecessor of more advanced large language models that will shape up the road to all the above,” he explained.

Mr Zammit is Founder and CEO at technology and innovation firm Start Studios, and is also Founder and Chair at both Changemakers – Malta Innovation Summit and also Malta Innovation Forum. He is also Founder and Administrator at Business Angels Malta and Chief Technology Officer at Greenroads, among other roles at other companies.
