Matthew Caruana

Junior Achievement (JA) Malta on Wednesday announced that CEO Matthew Caruana has been elected Chairperson of JA Europe’s Board of Executives.

He has also been named Board Member of JA Europe.

The decision came after CEOs of JA organisations across Europe unanimously approved Mr Caruana’s nomination, and he will now serve in both roles until 2025.

JA Malta is a member of JA Worldwide, providing hands-on, experiential learning in entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy. It seeks to give students pathways for employability, job creation, and financial success. JA Europe is the European arm of JA Worldwide.

Mr Caruana thanked all of the CEOs across the JA Europe network for voting for him and expressed his gratitude to the general assembly for approving his nomination.

He also thanked his predecessor, Janis Kreivans, who is also CEO of JA Latvia, for his sterling work and shared his “excitement and commitment” to serve in his new role.

“As a JA Malta Foundation alumnus, this organisation has given me so much. I will, with pleasure, give back to the organisation in Malta and in Europe,” Mr Caruana said.

“Looking forward to continuing working as a network to inspire and prepare youth to have the mindset and the skillset to build thriving communities,” he continued.

Mr Caruana first joined the organisation in 2016, serving as Business Mentor for four years when it was still known as Junior Achievement Young Enterprise (JAYE) Malta. In 2022 he was appointed CEO of the foundation.

Taking to social media, he also expressed gratitude to outgoing JA Malta Chairperson Christopher Vassallo Cesareo, former CEO Fiona Captur, and new Chairperson Fabianne Ruggier for getting him back involved in the organisation. He also thanked JA Malta’s team and Board of Directors for supporting him throughout his journey.
