Elmo Insurance appointed Juan Siracusa as Chief Officer for Commercial Lines and Reinsurance with effect from 5th September 2022.

This appointment shows Elmo Insurance’s intent to continue to strengthening the technical expertise within its existing team.

Mr Siracusa’s experience in the local insurance industry spans over 26 years, during which he occupied numerous management positions in various companies.

Over the years, Juan acquired underwriting and reinsurance experience on all non-life products, whilst focusing predominantly on the underwriting and claims functions related to commercial and industrial business.

Mr Siracusa joins Elmo after 12 years of employment at MAPFRE Middlesea plc. He joined said company in 2010 and became responsible for its corporate area in 2014, thus managing relations with insurance brokers and direct corporate risks.

Mr Siracusa was then entrusted with the responsibility of the entire claims function as Chief Officer Claims in January 2017, a role which involved the general management of all claim areas for motor, personal lines, commercial lines, health, and group life products.

After five years in this role, in 2021, he was further promoted to Chief Officer Operations, taking on increased responsibilities such as direct participation at executive management level and directorship in three subsidiary companies within the group.

Up to recent months, Mr Siracusa also held market responsibilities at the Malta Insurance Association as Chairperson of the Motor Sector and of the Motor Insurance Bureau.

The Chief Officer for Commercial Lines and Reinsurance commenced his studies in insurance at the Chartered Insurance Institute towards the end of the 1990s and obtained his Fellowship in 2008.

During this same period, he also obtained a bachelor’s degree in Financial Services, awarded by Napier University in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2007.

Mr Sircausa’s appointment remains subject to regulatory approval by the MFSA.
