Later this month, the Malta Business Bureau (MBB) and EUROCHAMBRES will be coming together to host a nationwide consultation session about the Future of Europe.

This session will be tying in with the European Union’s Conference on the Future of Europe – an initiative encompassing over 2,000 events which encourages discussion and debate about Europe’s challenges, priorities, and future.

“Europe is at a crossroads, and with the EU looking to transform itself to be more inclusive, more democratically relevant, and more present in the daily lives of citizens and businesses, it has launched its Conference on the Future of Europe,” MBB CEO Joe Tanti said.

“It is crucial that businesses participate in order to ensure that the future EU keeps its interests close to heart – such as a fully functional single market, harmonised rules, and a fair, level playing field,” he continued.

Set to happen on 23rd September, the MBB and EUROCHAMBRES collaboration will thus be focusing on themes which strongly relate to business. These include the single market, the environment, and jobs.

“The view of our business community must be at the heart of the important ongoing discussions on the future of Europe,” EUROCHAMBRES CEO Ben Butters added.

“The temporary closure of many borders during the pandemic gave an unwelcome indication of the cost of non-Europe; we must capitalise on this wake-up call and redouble our efforts to pursue a Europe that is open for business,” he continued.

With the feedback gained from the consultation session, the MBB will launch a high-level Declaration of the Future of Europe on behalf of Maltese businesses. This will then be presented to the European Commission.

The online session on 23rd September will run from 9:30am to 11:30am and will include breakout sessions about the future of the single market and the European economy, the future of environment and sustainability in the EU, and the future of work.

For more information about the event, check out the consultation session’s Facebook event page or the MBB’s website.
