Malta Enterprise has launched a scheme that will allow businesses to benefit from up to €20,000 to acquire machinery and dispensing containers, so as to reduce the use of single-use plastic.

The scheme is aimed at assisting companies to purchase machinery that stores products in large quantities, as well as custom containers in which customers can place the products.

Speaking at the launch of the scheme, Malta Enterprise CEO Kurt Farrugia encouraged all businesses that are interested in introducing a similar system to call Business First on 144, so as to be guided on which costs are eligible. “We believe that this container initiative can lead to a change in the culture of the way we shop — to reduce pollution and buy more responsibly and sustainably,” he said.

Also at the launch, Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia noted that “we are currently at a time of transition,” going on to emphasise the importance of reducing plastic waste. “It is important that sustainable investment becomes a crucial part of our economy and the norm in the services we need every day,” he continued.
