As anyone who has applied for a new position can attest, receiving no feedback from the company or recruiters can be extremely demoralising.

In an interview with MaltaCEOs.mt, Francesca Ellul, Business Development Manager and Head of Human Resources at Street HR, makes a clear call to clients who make use of recruitment services, beseeching them to “provide your recruiters with feedback on CVs or following interviews.”

Echoing this view, Mustafa Özgergef, Head of Digital Marketing at iBet Network is also shining a light on the issue.

Mustafa Özgergef / Linked In

Sharing his own personal experience on social media, he writes, “exactly one year ago, I applied for a position through LinkedIn. Although my resume was downloaded and everything, I haven’t received any negative or positive response to my application. Complete radio silence.”

Sound familiar? Many of us have been there. But unlike many of us, Mr Özgergef did hear from the company in question, some time later, albeit for a very different reason.

“Yesterday, someone from that same company reached out to me with a proposal to do business with my current company,” he recounts, noting that they did so by tracking down his work email address on LinkedIn.

“After an introduction, I made sure that they understand how unfair [it is] not to respond to someone’s job application but tracking them down after a year only for their own benefit, to do business,” he continues, affirming that such behaviour can say a lot about a company and how it’s managed.

Concluding his post with a plea directed at recruiters and employers, he writes, “please stop ghosting potential employees and job applications. Even if the outcome is negative, everyone has the right to know and get notified accordingly. It takes just a minute of your time but it will make a huge difference.”

Indeed, as Street HR’s Head of HR affirms, “no feedback can be extremely demoralising for an applicant and can hinder their interest to apply with your business or for other roles in the future.”
