Sarah Puntan-Galea took to social media to mark her first day as Director of UK-based charity Chagos Conservation Trust.

As its name suggests, this non-profit organisation works to conserve the vulnerable reefs and wildlife residing in the Chagos Archipelago within the Indian Ocean.

The trust is chaired by Natasha Gibson, who’s supported by Secretary Alistair Gammell, Treasurer Rachel McGoff, and a number of Trustees.

“I am so excited to announce that today is my first working day as Director of the Chagos Conservation Trust,” Ms Puntan-Galea wrote earlier today.

“A role I worked extremely hard to get, and have spent months preparing for. A dream job that will draw on my strategic communications, diplomatic, and senior management skills – plus my love for birdlife and conservation,” she continued.

Ms Puntan-Galea went on to post an introductory video detailing the significance of the Chagos archipelago and the work of the trust.

“In the current climate, there is so much work to do! But in a world with very few unspoiled wild places, I passionately believe we need to protect the previous, unique, and vitally important environment of the Chagos Archipelago,” the Director concluded.

Ms Puntan-Galea joins the Chagos Conservation Trust after a series of roles across Malta and the UK. Up until last month, she served as Director of Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs at Valleys to Coast in Wales.

Before that, she served as Head of Communications / Government Spokesperson at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs / Office of the Prime Minister within the Government of Malta.

Her previous experiences also include Director of Corporate Communications at BRND WGN, Head of Press and Public Diplomacy at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and Deputy Director at The Ditchley Foundation.
