Johann Grech

Malta Film Commissioner Johann Grech took to social media to celebrate the new trailer release of upcoming Apple TV series ‘Foundation’, which was partially shot locally.

“This makes me so proud – Malta being featured in the most recent trailer of ‘Foundation’ Apple TV series. The water scenes were filmed at the Malta Film Studios,” Mr Grech wrote.

Only last month, Mr Grech and Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo inaugurated a new pump house at the Malta Film Studios as part of a €35 million masterplan for the venue.

“Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we have managed to continue to attract productions to Malta,” the Film Commissioner continued.

Parts of the Apple TV series were shot locally all throughout February 2021.

David S. Goyer, the show’s creator, had noted that whilst filming was always planned to be conducted locally, new restrictions imposed in London meant that significant portions of production had to be shifted to the island.

Mr Grech has been serving as Malta’s Film Commissioner since December 2017. Prior to his appointment, he occupied the roles of Head of Government Marketing at the Office of the Prime Minister as well as Strategic Planner at TBWA\ANG, amongst others.
