“The year 2020 has been a year like no other – for Main Street Complex and for businesses globally,” said Gasan Group Chairman, Joseph Gasan in a statement, following the release of the company’s Annual Report for 2020.
He stressed how, notwithstanding the unforeseen difficulties brought about by the pandemic, “I am proud to say that our Board and management team have stepped up to this challenge and in mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on our concessionaires, whilst safeguarding the interests of our stakeholders.”
Main Street shopping complex, located in Paola, got off to a strong start at the beginning of 2020, with footfall for the first two months up by 4 per cent over the same period in 2019, but was forced to close with the onset of the pandemic in Malta between March and May.
“For the period between reopening and year end, footfall reached 69 per cent of the corresponding period in the previous year,” he said.
Mr Gasan added that while the results for the year are a reflection of the unprecedented situation, “This period of adversity has also highlighted the company’s resilience.”
The Chairman remains confident that the shopping complex will continue to be a popular shopping destination for the southern areas of Malta. “As life in general and business operations return to whatever the new normal will turn out to be, we will once again contribute positively to the success of our concessionaires and continue to deliver a unique customer experience to our clients.”
