Verdala International School / Teacher Horizons

Verdala International School Malta has appointed Niall Williams and Matthew Marson to Directorship positions.

In two separate announcements released by Mr Williams and Mr Marson on Wednesday and Thursday respectively, the pair shared the news of their new roles. The former joined as Director of Teaching and Learning, while the latter has been appointed Director of IT Integration.

Mr Williams is a seasoned education professional, having been active in the industry for over 15 years. Prior to his latest role, he was PK-12 Curriculum and IB Coordinator at Cairo American College in Egypt. His experience also includes stints working in Slovakia, Russia, Ukraine and the UK.

He is also an International Baccalaureate Educator Network (IBEN) Programme Leader at International Baccalaureate, Accreditation Evaluator at Council of International School and also at Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools. Mr Williams holds a Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education, a Master of Arts in Theory and Practice of Human Rights from University of Essex, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Education from Newcastle University, among other qualifications.

Mr Marson is an experienced educator with an expertise in innovation, curriculum development, strategic leadership, and change management. Aside from his latest appointment, he was also Director of Learning and Innovation at Nishimachi International School in Japan for three years.

His experiences also includes stints in eLearning and IT, some of which at Director-level positions, in the UK, Seychelles, Malaysia, and Italy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business Management and a Graduate Teacher Programme in Initial Teacher Training, both from University of Wolverhampton, together with a number of other qualifications.

Verdala International School was founded in 1976 as a day school to serve the children of expatriate families living in Malta. In 1985 it reconstituted as a non-profit foundation, currently operating as The Verdala International School Foundation. The school moved with 110 students to its current site at Fort Pembroke in 1987, and it has since grown to have over 500 students, leading to it acquiring additional buildings in the area.
