Veteran journalist Keith Demicoli was full of praise for his wife Alexia Demicoli and her hard work at Hospice Malta on Monday, a day after a record sum of €581,616 was raised during a telethon in aid of the NGO.

“18 months ago, after almost a decade of working in the corporate world, my wife Alexia Demicoli decided to make a big career change and pursue something more meaningful and purposeful in her life,” Mr Demicoli wrote.

In January 2023, Ms Demicoli joined Hospice Malta as Chief Relations Officer (CRO), with the aim of raising more awareness and funds for the NGO, particularly to help complete St Michael Hospice in St Venera.

Commending his wife over her passion, Mr Demicoli remarked that watching her pour her heart and soul into this cause “has been truly inspiring.”

“Last year, after just a few months in her new role, Hospice Malta raised an astounding €462,000,” he shared.

While recognising the impact of Hospice Malta’s work, which provides palliative care for patients with terminal illnesses, he highlighted that the NGO’s work brings comfort and dignity to patients and their dearest during the roughest patch of their lives.

His post was accompanied by a photo from Sunday’s telethon, with Mr Demicoli stating that it symbolises Ms Demicoli’s character, working in the background “to ensure everything runs smoothly and successfully.”

The photo shows Alexia behind the scenes during the 12-hour telethon.

Mr Demicoli ended his note by expressing gratitude to all professionals, volunteers, presenters and suppliers for their contributions.

“Outstanding teamwork for one noble goal – to continue giving life at the end of life. The end of life deserves as much dignity, care and respect as the beginning,” he concluded.
