The Government of Malta signed a contract with smart business network provider Pagero for the provision of PEPPOL (Pan-European Public Procurement Online) networking and e-invoicing services for all its departments, entities, regional authorities, and local councils.

This was done following a public tender process.

PEPPOL refers to a set of specifications maintained by the OpenPEPPOL non-profit organization with the aim of standardizing cross-border and electronically supported procurement procedures.

Bengt Nilsson / Pagero

“We welcome Government of Malta as a new customer of Pagero and are happy that they are taking steps to facilitate digital trade in the country,” Pagero CEO Bengt Nilsson said.

“I believe that their selection of Pagero reaffirms our position as a leading provider in the e-document compliance space,” Mr Nilsson continued.

The agreement in question will facilitate and enable the Government of Malta to meet its obligation concerning the European Directive on e-invoicing in Public Procurement and also establish consistent and standardised channels for the Maltese public administration to be able to receive e-invoices from its suppliers.

The implementation of this initiative is being implemented by Pagero and the Ministry for Finance and Employment. Following its completion, Maltese and international businesses will be able to send e-invoiced to any public sector body in Malta via the PEPPOL infrastructure.
