If you form part of the local business sphere, chances are you’ll have come across MaltaCEOs – a prestigious annual publication bringing together 50 of Malta’s foremost business minds to discuss business, strategy and the year ahead.
In essence, MaltaCEOs.mt is the online brand extension of that, but it’s purpose will stretch beyond that of its sister product. This new platform aims to be Malta’s first online corporate portal targeting CEOs and business leaders, and, apart from featuring news and interviews with Malta’s top business minds, it also brings together a variety of experts from different fields to discuss fundamental issues related to leadership, growth, strategy, innovation, organisational culture, managing people, technology, entrepreneurship, decision-making and more.
Commenting on the launch of MaltaCEOs.mt, Jesmond Bonello, Managing Director of Content House Group, the media organisation that owns the MaltaCEOs brand, explains why the company felt it was the right time to embark on such an ambitious project. “Ever since we launched MaltaCEOs as a publication several years ago, the impact was tremendous and the brand proved to be an instant hit with business leaders, c-level executives, CEOs, MDs, professionals and top professionals in management,” he says affirming that this became even clearer this year, with the launch of the largest ever edition of MaltaCEOs for 2021.
“This means that amid the pandemic, we still managed to excite the advertising market to invest in the brand, and we also managed to get some of the best business leaders, as well as some of the best brands, on board. And, since COVID-19 proved to be a catalyst for change and rethinking business models, we thought it opportune to invest now in a solid local platform where business leaders can engage and share their ideas on challenges, opportunities and mindset to succeed, come what may. Once again, I have to say that the feedback from business leaders, and also from the advertising market per se, on MaltaCEOs.mt as the sister brand of the publication has been outstanding.”
MaltaCEOs.mt is also being launched with over 20 leading business personalities on board as regular contributors that will shape the debate on leadership and strategy in business. Among these is entrepreneur and Business Coach Nathan Farrugia, whose everyday role at Vistage sees him working with CEOs and business leaders to help grow their business and find meaning in their working lives. Forming part of this platform was “a no-brainer”, he says, maintaining that “it’s often lonely at the top, so a place to share and learn is not only useful but necessary for people carrying all this responsibility.”
Nathan will be contributing regular articles focused on creating discussion around how CEOs can unlock potential, lead and motivate their teams and make great decisions, in keeping with his belief that “when we grow as individuals and leaders, our business benefits.”
Dr Roberta Lepre, Managing Consultant at Weave Consulting will also be contributing to MaltaCEOs.mt. “MaltaCEOs.mt provides a platform for current and aspiring business leaders, through which they can come together and be inspired. I feel privileged to have been asked to be a regular contributor and thus be part of this journey,” she adds, highlighting her ultimate goal to inspire leaders to make their business models more sustainable and impactful, for the benefit of all stakeholders.
Roberta’s articles will focus on the different areas of corporate sustainability and ESG investment criteria. “More than anything, I would like to bring to the fore the business case for sustainability – namely the notion that the implementation of a well-managed and well-resourced sustainability strategy is an investment which ultimately also results in higher profitability,” she explains.
Another of our contributors, Jonathan Shaw, Director Coach at CoachingMinds.eu will be offering insight on cognitive behavioural and business performance coaching. Drawing on the success of the MaltaCEOs publication, he says, “the annual print publication is a fantastic product and having an ongoing online platform further consolidates this project. Nowadays we are definitely not short of access to information, business insights and data, yet having a local specific portal is the main benefit for the community.”
As editor of the Malta CEOs publication, Jo Caruana has been involved with the project since day one and will also be contributing to this portal. The entrepreneur and etiquette consultant believes that “there is huge value in bringing together Malta’s leading business minds to share their stories, and I know we have inspired readers over the years.”
Jo feels that the portal will serve to make that inspiration more immediate, ensuring both existing and up-and-coming business leaders in Malta have a space to learn from one another. “I am excited to be both a reader and a regular contributor! If this year has taught us anything, it’s that we can’t afford to rest on our laurels. As businesspeople we have to keep learning from each other’s expertise – and this is the perfect platform to do exactly that,” she says.
Jes Camilleri, Corporate Coach and Trainer at Think Talent, is also excited to be part of this new initiative. “I will be sharing thoughts and ideas from my own experience as a workplace leader, trainer and executive coach. I will be tackling a number of topics revolving around the challenges of team leadership in the 21st century, particularly those that relate to a leaders’ emotional intelligence,” he explains.
Sharing his vision for the project, Jes adds, “I think that this could be a great forum for local workplace leaders to share ideas and best practice. There’s a wealth of leadership material online yet most of it could be somewhat removed from the reality of our own shores.”
Also forming part of our network of contributors is business mentor Nadia Pace, who believes that “the local business scene has long felt the need for an inspirational platform such as MaltaCEOs.mt.” In Nadia’s view, this portal will serve to fuel discussions pertinent to corporate life and inspire resilience as we navigate through the trying times brought about by COVID-19.
“It is an honour for me to be part of such an invigorating, dynamic community,” she maintains, as she looks forward to discussing fundamental issues such as resilient and transformational leadership, the importance of mentoring, generating new revenue streams whilst transitioning through the pandemic, as well as business transformation and other matters. “I am a strong believer in the importance of collaboration and MaltaCEOs.mt will not only showcase the hard work done by different business players in Malta but also inspire like-minded individuals to connect,” Nadia adds.
Performance Coach and leadership trainer Karl Grech describes the new portal as “a one-stop location” that presents the opportunity to showcase successes and aspirations. “I am proud to be contributing as part of a wider pool of experts. MaltaCEOs.mt will give me a platform to present my content, ideas and expertise,” he says.
In his role, Karl’s objective is to unlock people’s potential by developing the skills they need and build the confidence to reach new heights. “In my articles, I will focus on topics related to leadership, coaching, emotional intelligence and goal setting. My aim is to help the reader make a positive ‘shift’ and enhance how they connect, communicate and collaborate at work,” he explains.
Another of our regular contributors is Executive Coach and HR expert Mikela Fenech Pace of Upstream, who considers MaltaCEOs.mt to be “a big first step to realising that whilst we often rely on overseas journals and online sites, there are many in Malta who have extremely valid contributions to make which can shape the way we view business.”
Mikela’s contribution will focus on matters relating to HR and people. “People have always been Malta’s greatest asset and one we tend to overlook. Even in business, the power lies in the people – this is where the secret of success lies,” she maintains. Highlighting how the new portal will be of benefit to the local business community, Mikela explains that it will “bring to the fore knowledge that is fashioned for a Maltese market, with the specificity of our island nation in mind.”
Finally, Leadership Advisor Deborah Webster views her involvement in MaltaCEOs.mt as part of her mission towards doing her bit to help rebuild the economy in this uniquely challenging time. “I genuinely believe that if we are open about the challenges we face and share our experience and insights, we can help each other get through this,” she says.
Writing about leadership, innovation and impact, especially at the cross-section of technology and humanity, Deborah will be bringing some perspective on various trends and insights on better ways of doing things. “My goal is straightforward – to help CEOs think beyond their companies’ bottom line and position themselves for a new reality, one that if we’re smart, will make us better in the long run.”
